BALKAN IN SPIRIT & SOUL

Radmila Rajic Njue - sopran, Adam Ørvad - accordeon

The Balkans and its nature and mentality. The ancestors suffered and struggled and the people write and sing about it. Joy was suffused with grief, and grief was filled with hope. Thus it was, and thus it always will be – The Balkans and its survival – the Balkans and its heritage.

Radmila Rajic Njue and Adam Ørvad met and recognised all of this in the intense vortex of Balkan music. The music that was written by people who knew what life in the Balkans is, or people who halted their journey and could not move further – the defiance of the Balkans became an inspiration for many.
The soulfulness that people recognise as "Slavic" holds a strong force like the shouting from one mountaintop to another. The Balkans prevail – it sings its heritage alive.

Radmila and Adam have assembled a programme focused on song-treasures form Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia and Romania – partly in the versions of classical composers – partly directly ”from the source” in the arrangements of the duo itself.
